Published jointly by the California Historical Society and Heyday Books, Courthouses of California: An Illustrated History is a richly illustrated, carefully researched, and elegantly designed photo documentary book chronicling 150 years of judicial architecture in California.
The book includes a preface by Chief Justice of California Ronald M. George, and a collection of essays by distinguished members of the legal, historical and architectural professions. At the heart of the book are hundreds of magnificent photographs by such renowned photographers as Dorothea Lange, Carleton Watkins, and Eadweard Muybridge.
Half of the net proceeds from the sale of the book will be donated to CHS.
About the Author
Ray McDevitt is an attorney with a San Franciscobased law firm. He has represented the United States Environmental Protection Agency and California cities, counties, and other local government agencies in both state and federal courts. He is an adjunct professor at the University of San Francisco School of Law.
